Dinosaurs are not extinct at the movies! It has been 14 years since there has been a new Jurassic movie in theaters.
The 4th movie in the series, Jurassic World, just became the largest global movie opener of all time with a staggering $511.8 million in its 1st days in theaters. An estimated $204.6m is USA revenue by Sunday, June 14, 2015.
Universal Pictures & Legendary both co-financed the $150m investment to make the PG-13 film. Audiences in every quadrant turned out to see the film in theaters. 39% of audiences surveyed were under the age of 25, signifying the massive interest of both a new generation and the continued enthusiasm of those who saw Jurassic Park in 1993. An estimated 48% of USA audiences paid for the 3D experience.
Jurassic World is now the 2nd highest USA movie opening of all time, right behind Marvel's The Avengers which was $207.4m back in 2012. By Monday, it could be larger than Avengers.
Jurassic World could even have a sequel. The main actor, Mr. Pratt says in interviews that he signed on for future movies in the series.
Other movies' results from this weekend:
- Spy earned $16m in its 2nd weekend. It's USA total is $56.9m so far.
San Andreas earned $11m more.
Insidious Chapter 3 earned $7.3m.
Pitch Perfect 2 earned $6m
