STAR WARS LAND heading to Disneyworld and Disneyland

Postby Tink » Sun Aug 16, 2015 1:33 pm

Big news today for you fans of the Force. Star Wars lands are headed to the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. Walt Disney Co. Chairman Bob Iger revealed the announcement during the annual D23 Expo in Anaheim. These would be the largest themed land the parks have ever created, at 14 acres each. At Disney World, Star Wars land will be at Disney's Hollywood Studios. According to the Orange County Register, it will be in the Big Thunder Ranch area at Disneyland Park with some expansion into a backstage location.

Both Star Wars lands will transport guests to a never-before-seen planet, a trading port and "one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life," according to a Disney press release.

Both lands will have two signature attractions. One will be a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The other attraction will put fans at the helm of the Millennium Falcon on a customized secret admission.

No timetable as to when work will begin on these new lands. Until then, the following Star Wars enhancements will be popping up at existing attractions:

Star Wars Launch Bay - This area will include meet-and-greets with new and favorite Star Wars characters, a themed store and special food offerings. Guests will also get the chance to see sneak peaks behind the scenes of the new film and special exhibits. At Disney's Hollywood Studios, it will be located in the Animation Courtyard. At Disneyland Park, it will be located in Tomorrowland, where it will share space with the reimagined Super Hero HQ. In this space, guests will be able to meet and interact with Captain America, Thor and the returning Iron Man. Both of these experience will open later this year.

Jedi Training Academy - This interactive experience geared toward children ages 4 through 12 will be reimagined, with new characters and a new villain from Disney XD's "Star Wars Rebels."

Season of the Force - This is a new seasonal event to begin in early 2016 at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios. In Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, guests will get to explore the Star Wars galaxy with special entertainment, food and more. Space Mountain will get a Star Wars-themed overlay called Hyperspace Mountain, wherein guests will be part of an X-wing Starfighter battle. At Disney's Hollywood Studios, there will be a new fireworks spectacular on weekends set to the Star Wars score.
