Nintendo has stated that their future gaming system (codenamed NX) will not be powered by Android.
"There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX," a Nintendo spokesman said.
Previously the Japanese Nikkei news reported that Nintendo was considering using the operating system as a way to attract more third-party developers.
It was said that an insider told Nikkei that it would also mean that development could be expanded to smartphones, tablets, and other devices.
Nikkei has a long history of getting reports right, and Nintendo has a history of denying those reports early on despite them being accurate.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said that the NX won't be discussed in detail until 2016.
Also, he said Nintendo wasn't going solely into smartphone games.
Additional rumors show that the new NX game system may not be geographic region-free and that Nintendo may offer (or require) all future Nintendo gaming systems to go through a unified membership service.
Will Nintendo's plans open the doors to global hacking attempts like what we've seen with Sony?
Could membership up-sells help stabilize Nintendo's fluctuating revenue?
We're blasting off again...
