The Predator 8 gaming tablet uses the Intel Cherry Trail (Atom X7) chip based on Android OS.
Acer removed some of the mystery surrounding its first gaming tablet, the Predator 8.
Details of the tablet were shared by an Acer executive during the Computex keynote of Kirk Skaugen, Intel senior vice president and general manager of the PC client group.
Predator 8 is the 1st Android tablet with the Atom X7 chip to be announced, although a number of Cherry Trail tablets running Microsoft's Windows OS have been previously announced -- including Microsoft's Surface 3, which started shipping in May 2015.
They demo'd the Predator tablet playing a racing game. During their demo, the graphics appeared to run well. Hopefully these results continue using the new Intel chip to support graphics as well. Note that during a hands-on test earlier this year the Cherry Trail didn't improve much on in battery life.
Acer didn't provide any additional details of the Predator 8 or any planned release date. It initially announced the tablet during a news event last month in New York City. Acer wants more of the tablet market, by making a wide range of of gaming hardware products like desktops, laptops, monitors and mobile products.
For this to be an exciting gaming tablet, we'll hope to get more information about polygon processing, texture processing, and pixel painting capabilities.
